Class NK Issued the Latest Edition of Rules and Guidance
Class NK (Class NK) released its latest "Rules and Guidance" amendment, it increases the requirements for structural strength of container ship. In addition, the amendment also contains relevant requirements: test for propeller shaft and stern tube shaft, the welding procedure and related specifications, application range of fireproof cable, car carrier, fire prevention and safety measures.
As a shipwreck of a large container ship In June 2013, Class NK established a security investigation team, which composed of professionals with relevant knowledge and experience form shipyards and shipping companies etc, the purpose is to survey the shipwreck possibility and safety for the large container ship. Its findings and the action plan of the association were published on "the structural safety survey of large container ships" in Sep 2014.
On the other hand, the Japanese container ship safety committee of the Ministry of land and communications (MLIT) has also made suggestions on the requirements of large container ships in its summary report in Mar 2015.
According to the MLIT Committee revised rules and suggestions, the association has formulated a action plan, and will take ship shock, water pressure and container load into consideration, update its independent longitudinal strength.
